church@derbysouthThe church@derbysouth is made up of four Anglican Churches which cover the area between and around the two southern entry roads into the City of Derby. The four churches serve the areas of Alvaston, Chellaston, Wilmorton and Allenton & Shelton Lock. The Diocese of Derby has started to move away from using the traditional Parish as the unit to organise its work by developing Mission and Ministry Areas (MMAs). MMAs come in a variety of sizes reflecting the diversity that people create. Just as each person is different and unique, so is each MMA. church@derbysouth covers the largest population of all the MMAs in the Derby Diocese. This method of organising ourselves enables us to share the journey of faith with one another, across several congregations, in several worship centres. The church@derbysouth aims to serve and work in the communities of Derby and is committed to sharing the gospel of Christ.
The MMAchurch@derbysouth is a partnership of four Church of England parishes within the southern suburbs of Derby. The parishes that have agreed to work together are:- St Edmund's Allenton and Shelton Lock. St Michael & All Angels, Alveston. St Peter's, Chellaston. St Andrew with St Osmund's. London Road, Wilmorton, Derby. Together our MMA is working towards one church with many congregations and many worship centres. Some of the activities we do together in our MMA will be held in one place, others will happen throughout the four parishes which make up our MMA. Our aim and goal as a MMA is to offer support for each other in all that we do. We also believe that the church is made up of the people and not the buildings. Mission and Ministry Areas have been created across the whole of the Diocese of Derby as part of Renewing Ministry . |
